First UK Passivhaus to be built with cavity wall construction. • Design & build project led by Green Building Store. • Denby Dale, West Yorkshire • Private. The Case Study I have chosen is the Denby Dale Passivhaus. The rationale behind this decision was mainly due to the wealth of resources provided. Design Case Study. Denby Dale Passivhaus was built for a private client who wanted a three bedroom detached house, built to a strict budget of £, on an.

Many thanks, Murray — Penzance. This is achieved by use of a sophisticated heat exchanger driven by two very efficient fans. Download PDF of this case study. It is really important that people get to experience the comfort, warmth and air quality of Passivhaus buildings first hand to help spread the word.

Passivhaus wins constantly in addressing fuel poverty, comfort and energy efficiency. We have noticed changes psasivhaus awareness of Passivhaus over the last 5 years. Comfort and joy Today the house is a warm and comfortable 21 degrees inside, 10 degrees outside.

In addition to its thermal performance glass mineral wool also has other sustainable features. Visitors have included Shadow Ministers, US Passivhaus Designers, schoolchildren, university students, building apprentices, self-builders and co-housing enthusiasts, architects, builders, Kirklees councillors and local MPs.

More information on the Denby Dale Passivhaus, including technical films and a 40 page technical briefing, is at www. The first winter was a very cold winter and we just turned up the heating and the house sometimes overheated up to 26 degrees in the upstairs rooms!

Thanks for your write up on your beautyfull passivhouse. A local Green Party councillor Andrew Cooper has been working on a policy to introduce Passivhau as a requirement on any land sold by Kirklees council. Airtight measures include west plaster ddnby applied inside the walls, minimising shrinkage between wall and floor and use of airtightness tapes and membranes. Another airtightness tape was used to seal the gap between the window and the plywood box.

In manufacture it uses a high content of recycled glass bottles and requires less overall energy consumption than some alternative products, resulting in less carbon emissions. Glass mineral wool was specified over rigid insulation to ensure a tight thermal fit.

Whatever we do to it, the house runs along performing perfectly, hour after hour, day after day, year after year. Please let us know if you have any case studies, resources or simple actions to share.

passivhasu Built by Dald Building Store’s construction division – Green Building Company – the project is the first certified Passivhaus in dael UK to be built using cavity wall construction and has pioneered the combination of British vernacular construction methods with the German low energy Passivhaus design methodology.

E2 Architecture The Larch House: The house runs itself. Earthwool DriTherm Cavity Slabs are BBA Certified for all exposure zones and formally guaranteed for 50 years to prevent the transmission of liquid water from the outer masonry leaf to the dael masonry leaf.

Understanding and modelling thermal bridging is becoming absolutely critical to accurately predicting the heat loss of a building. The aim of building this property was to provide the construction industry with an easy to use template to build a low energy Passivhaus using techniques and materials that are familiar to the British workforce.

Thanks for your interest in this.

Products used in this project. The original design details developed for the project can also be used as a template for the construction industry as to how to minimize thermal bridging, improve energy efficiency and maximise the airtightness of projects built using cavity wall construction. We welcome your involvement, enthusiasm and engagement – it’s what the industry needs to keep moving this work forward. The project has pioneered the combination of British vernacular construction methods with the German low energy Passivhaus design methodology. Thermal bypass refers to air movement through or around insulation, which can reduce passivhays effectiveness. It optimises heat from the sun and Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery MVHR provides constant fresh air and helps retain the heat inside the house.

Now we need 18… 9 days ago.

We think it could grow exponentially from now on…. It has super insulation and triple glazing on windows passichaus doors combined with insulated timber frame all help to retain heat.

What really needs to happen is for Passivhaus to be used for social housing. Although not a requirement of Passivhaus design, addressing thermal bypass — by reducing air movement through or around insulation — is becoming good building practice.

Hopefully this will come to fruition soon! Minimising thermal bypass Thermal bypass refers to air movement through passiivhaus around insulation, which can reduce its effectiveness. I contacted Cllr Andrew Cooper about projects for social housing with Passive in mind, on Plane Street, Huddersfield 18 months ago and re-contacted him just recently as nothing had happened as far as I know.

Energy is not going to come down in price in the foreseeable future.

Passivhaus is up against various vested interests.
